Just Blaze & Baauer – Higher

18 Jan

Just Blaze & Baauer

With trap music at an all time high, legendary hip-hop producer Just Blaze tries his hand at the genre with his tour mate and Harlem Shake producer Baauer. Now Just Blaze is quite familiar with dance music and is often seen in the company of DJ Chuckie, producing random house anthems sampling his own songs, or collaborating with new, innovative artists. But this track is a testament to the fact that dance music can completely cross genres without sacrificing quality. ‘Higher‘ which features both a Jay-Z tag in the beginning and vocal samples of his Just Blaze produced ‘U Don’t Know‘ is absolutely trap madness. Ridiculous synths and a mesmerizing bassline will make this a huge hit in 2013. Try not dancing to this next time you hear it while you’re out…I DARE you.

Oh and “JUST BLAAAAAAAAZE”. Sorry,  I had to.

Disclosure – Control ft. Ria Ritchie (Kastle remix)

20 Nov

Oh hey, Kastle, how-ya-doo-ern?! What was originally a dancefloor slaughter, Disclosure’s “Control” receives a sexy reincarnation by the San Francisco native. Street beat snares and diving pad synths help slow this one down to hit just the right spot. Pay no mind to the quirky intro, you’ll get used to and absolutely fall in love with those beautiful street/garage snares. For any of you snobs out there who want to classify this as trap, I’m not even mad. This one’s done right, all the way down to the Cali strings at the trail end. You wanna hear the best part? IT’S FREE

gLAdiator – Bitch Slap (Original Mix) ft. FERAL is KINKY

9 Nov

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls…I give you- gLAdiator. Danl Goodman and Ian Johnson are two of LA’s finest! This purple-and-gold bleeding duo bumps trap, moombah and electro stylized beats that captured my attention almost a year ago now, and I’ve been a loyal fan ever since. These two bring the energy so hard in their sets and also happen to be a couple of the nicest and chillest guys I’ve ever had the pleasure of hanging out with. They’ve FINALLY decided to release the original version of this banger,Bitch Slap’, which they started previewing in their sets earlier this summer, including EDC Vegas which had the whole crowd wondering “seriously, who the fuck are these guys….” FERAL is KINKY does her thing and spits a dope little reggae verse that leads to the mother of all moombah drops, (seriously, just wait). With recent support from Diplo, ƱZ, Baauer, Flosstradamus, and Dillon Francis; these boys know just what they’re doing and I can’t wait to see their style and fan base expand even further over the new year. Visit their soundcloud for more beats and monthly mixes and be sure to like their facebook page and show the homies some love!

*BUMP the speakers for the drop at 1:29, please.

Certified Trap Reloaded Episode 1

18 Sep

Many people have joked about it, many people have sworn by it, but here is video evidence that Trap is popping off in 2012. Our friends over at LiveMixTapes.com & ClubTapes.com have put together this documentary-esque mini-series discussing the route that trap is taking and where it came from. One of the more impressive aspects of this series are the soundtracks that are arising from them – this first episode is packed with unknowns and heavy hitters that are going to be at the top of the game within months. Definitely give this episode a gander as your fall concert season gets underway. Check it!

Hot Chip – Look at Where We Are (Major Lazer Remix)

1 Aug

Get ready for some more of that new-new (ok two week old, but still) trap music, as Diplo (under his nom de bass, Major Lazer) shows the budding genre some love with his remix of Hot Chip’s post-electronic and extremely melodramatic Look at Where We Are’.  The mega-producer is perfectly happy to show us where he is with this O.G. (albeit out of character) extended remix, and in light of the impending Mad Decent Block Parties (in a city near you, RSVP now!), I couldn’t be more excited to hear Diplo drop this heavily. Party people, link up — Trap ’til I die.
