[REVIEW] Verboten presents: Lee Foss / Mathew Jonson / Walker & Royce at SRB Brooklyn (11.30.12)

4 Dec

Lee+Foss+PNGHuge thanks Verboten NYC for providing a deeper scene for the real house and tech afficionados! SRB Brooklyn was completely off the beaten path in a nice isolated spot in Brooklyn. When I arrived, Mike Palladino had already dove head first into his set. I’d never heard of Mike before (or seen him live, for that matter) – he did a phenomenal job of mixing a combination of light techno and funk which really set up the mood! He then got the crowd moving, dropping groovy tunes like Amine Edge & DANCE’s remix of Eyes On Me.

Preview: Sultan, Shepard & Sagstad – Somebody To Love (Third Party Remix)

10 Aug

The dynamic duo of Jonnie Macaire and Harry Bass, widely recognised and loved under the name of Third Party, inject their world famous melodic guise into Sultan & Ned Shepard and Thomas Sagstad’s ‘Somebody to Love’. Coming off their last single for Ultra Music titled ‘Thank You’ and ahead of an eagerly awaited fourth original under Steve Angello’s label Size Records, Third Party are back on remix duties following up on a collaboration with Wynter Gordon earlier this year. Bass and Macaire perfectly align and match the vocals of Dirty Vegas’ Steve Smith with uplifting lead play and intoxicating drum work to further add to a sweltering post-summer music season. Soon to be released on Sultan & Ned Shepard’s Harem Records, be sure to keep your eyes firmly set on the Essex two-piece as they continue to dominate 2012 in emphatic fashion.

Preview: Netsky – Come Alive [New Drum & Bass]

19 Apr

A few weeks back we posted a sneak peek at the first single from Netsky‘s forthcoming album, which is set to drop by the end of June (pushed back from the previously announced “end of May”). Although the DnB mastermind has yet to confirm a definite release date, he did just release the album’s second single ‘Come Alive’. While it may just be a preview, these 98 seconds of skillfully produced Drum & Bass are exactly what Netsky fans have been craving since the last teaser. Come Alive starts off with a happy little xylophone synth that reminds me of something from Zelda, but quickly evolves into an epic production laced with beautiful female vocals, soaring piano and strings melodies, and a powerful bass line. I can’t wait till the end of June.
