Disclosure – Tenderly (Flashback 1994 remix)

Fog

Fog

That bass grooooooves. Free remix from Australian producer, Flashback. And sounds like it’s ready to fit right into an Ibiza all night, 5 am set. Relaxing yet so moving. Granted, this remix sounds nothing like the original, but that’s alright and actually something we admire in remixes – genuine creativity.  Hats off to the young Flashback for sharing this one for free. Incredibly smooth and I can just see it chugging along any given sweaty basement dancefloor tonight.

FIRST LISTEN: Mercury – Man EP

11 Jan
Mercury

Mercury

They’ve proven themselves before as masters of rhythmic, grooving house tunes last year with Rio & Old Man’s House (which still is one of my personal favorites). Mercury opened up with another EP – a heavier sound in The Man, featuring big, burly, manly sounding noises all set to an 808 house break. The second track, Born Happy, is a little lighter but uplifting nonetheless. For whatever reason, I imagine it fitting in well at the end of a set…likely played by Carl Cox? I don’t know, it’s getting late, my imagination is running rampant and I need to get out of work already. These two tracks are available right now via beatport and will likely be heard in a Friday night house set near you:

Russ Chimes – Minimix (Annie Mac BBC Radio 1)

Russ Chimes

Russ Chimes

Recall our feature with Russ Chimes’ “Turn Me Out” last month? Annie Mac invited him back on the airwaves recently with a 5 minute minimix that caught our ears this morning. No, no human can or will do a live mix of 29 songs in 5 minutes; however, the song selection and engineering that went into this speaks to the tune of Russ’ ear. Broadcast last week on BBC, given out today as a free delivery, and delivered right to your ears courtesy of the J. Fantastic melting pot of tunes and pretty amazing, in this listener’s opinion. Track List after the jump. If you were hoping for something a bit more lengthy, we’ll leave another of his mixes below for your weekend:

Moomin – A Day and A Night EP

Moomin, in his studio

Moomin, in his studio

Earlier today, Berlin’s Moomin uploaded official previews for his EP A Day and A Night, due out mid-February 2013 on vinyl and digital. Smooth, loungey house with emotion that just oozes with class and sophistication. Granted, these are only previews – I’ve been searching for music like this that blends together feelings of relaxation, excitement and energy all in one. Reading that back, it doesn’t make sense and there really aren’t any words to do justice to his work. Take a listen for yourself and add Moomin to your watch list if you haven’t already.

Maceo Plex & Seth Troxler – Live @ BPM Festival (1.7.2013)

Troxler & Plex - NYE show in Barcelona

Troxler & Plex – NYE show in Barcelona

A festival we wish we could have experienced (ya, bummer, tell me about it) – The BPM Festival has more major acts this week than I have adverbs in my vocabulary. But what’s new with festivals these days? The need to compete amongst this huge, big budget shows only drives crazier line-ups, more unreasonable ticket prices and….well incredible set from these DJs! Yeah yeah, I’ll stow away the cynicism and criticism for another day.

Right now, take a listen to Seth Troxler and Maceo Plex burning through some of their ol’ fashion magic this past Monday. I’ve had the set blasting all morning and, well…Cheers to Spirit Soul Mix Archive for the prompt upload!

[Download] Duke Dumont – The Giver (Greymatter remix)

Greymatter

Greymatter

One of those special gems that pops up in your inbox about a month after it’s release – that’s what we got here. Thanks to Matt Wolf, I probably wouldn’t have heard Greymatter‘s remix of a track that likely propelled Duke Dumont into the international spotlight. I mean, how else does he get his own essential mix this week without The Giver making it on every RA Top 100 DJs setlist by the end of the year? The original is a classic and Greymatter helps put a a lighter, yet somehow deeper feel to his remix with a little reverb, a heavy bassline, delay on the vocals and plenty of percussion. I haven’t checked the tempo yet – my guess is it’s the same but this remix sounds like a nice, mellow chugger to me! Grab the wav below:
