Just Blaze & Baauer – Higher

18 Jan

Just Blaze & Baauer

With trap music at an all time high, legendary hip-hop producer Just Blaze tries his hand at the genre with his tour mate and Harlem Shake producer Baauer. Now Just Blaze is quite familiar with dance music and is often seen in the company of DJ Chuckie, producing random house anthems sampling his own songs, or collaborating with new, innovative artists. But this track is a testament to the fact that dance music can completely cross genres without sacrificing quality. ‘Higher‘ which features both a Jay-Z tag in the beginning and vocal samples of his Just Blaze produced ‘U Don’t Know‘ is absolutely trap madness. Ridiculous synths and a mesmerizing bassline will make this a huge hit in 2013. Try not dancing to this next time you hear it while you’re out…I DARE you.

Oh and “JUST BLAAAAAAAAZE”. Sorry,  I had to.

XXYYXX Gives Away Literally All His Tracks For Free

9 Dec
XXYYXX logo

XXYYXX

XXYYXX, or Marcel Everett of our homeland Orlando, FL., began releasing originals and remixes under this name a little under 2 years ago. His releases were limited in the scope of downloads (usually the first 100 lucky fans could receive a copy), until he unexpected announced through his facebook page a few minutes ago that he could be giving away all his productions for free here on his bandcamp. Marcel will be moving on from his XXYYXX project later this month to pursue a live band project, but the 17 year old has already established himself as a committed producer. The instrumental and sample-based productions of his that we’ve enjoyed over the past 2 years can now be anyone’s, but more importantly, we have a reason to remember Marcel as he moves into a different sector of the music business. And it really wouldn’t surprise me to see this next leap in his career as a simple hiatus from his widely successful XXYYXX name.

Enjoy only a portion of the downloads below and follow the link underneath for the full collection. All tracks are at a “name your own price” option – so feel free to donate as well!

The Knocks – White Light [Mix]

The Knocks - White Light Mix

The Knocks – White Light Mix

Something a bit more somber and thought provoking for those seeking a quiet, dim-lit room this Friday. I gotta say, it fits the mood for this rainy day in DC and must give a hand to The Knocks for including a couple old, essential DJ Shadow (coincidence?) tracks — even including a cut from one of our favorite EP’s of the season: Maths Time Joy Hideaway EP. A big cheers to these two hombres for setting a mood for this afternoon.

The Notorious B.I.G. – One More Chance (Woody remix)

5 Aug

I stumbled across this little nugget while perusing through Perseus’s facebook feed. So smooth, so perfect, such a beautiful touch on a Biggie classic. That bass with the cutting finger snaps play so sweet off each other. This little number comes from Woody’s 9-track free album titled ‘Woody x The Notorious BIG: Remixed’I know what you’re thinking: who hasn’t remixed Biggie these days? Sure, everyone knows the lyrics but it takes a mastermind to produce such an incredible melody to accompany the mood and theme of Biggie’s message. Besides, this is exactly what I need to cure hour 12 of my hangover today.

Mick Verma – Deep Visions EP

9 Jun

Deep house is making a strangely hefty comeback in the indie dance scene these days. Left and right I’m finding more producers starting deep house side projects – maybe because its a little less complex than most sub-genres? I’m not here to pass judgment with that observation, rather to pass on some excellent deep house from Mick Verma who’s doin’ somethin’ right. Among the abyss of emails (literally one billion) we receive on a daily basis, Mick’s style was exclusively sent to us from Vision Collective Recordings and it caught my ear. Mick has a distinct simplicity in his sound, which can naturally transcend from the overarching category of “house” to deep, chilled and classy vibes. After receiving the promo of his Deep Visions EP yesterday,’That Dance’ stood out as a personal favorite due to its hip hop flavor and influence that spontaneously invoked some childhood memories of growing up in projects of Anacostia (Southeast DC) as a child. I invite you to get lost in Mick’s work just as I did. Check out all the previews below to Deep Visions EP and show Mick some love, as they are all available for purchase on Beatport.
