Perseus & Jonas Rathsman – BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix [01.05.2013]

5 Jan

Jonas Rathsman & Perseus

Kicking off the 2013 line-up of BBC Radio 1‘s Future Stars were two leaders of an incredibly hot (and might I add American) label, FRENCH EXPRESS. Label head, Perseus, and Jonas Rathsman took control of the Essential Mix decks at 7 pm our time last night to churn out something I’ve been waiting to hear for a while. These two played an incredible back2back set last month at U Street Music Hall in DC and the time is absolutely ripe to take their sound to the worldwide airwaves. Tune in below for an exclusive listen to some new material from Rathsman himself, as well as some of what’s to come from this enormous label in 2013.

Orlando Higginbottom [T-E-E-D]

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. We’ve featured Orlando Higginbottom several times on the J throughout the past couple of years, most recently with his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, the release of TEED’s Tapes & Money and Your Love remix EP’s, and his the most recent upload of a back to back Boiler Room set at the W Hotel in London last month.

But I gotta say, this is a big one for us and we’re damn happy to have hosted a chat with Orlando and even more so to share it with you all. So, without delay, here’s our interview with the young Oxford, UK innovator: T-E-E-D. Stick around until the end for upcoming tour dates!

Dirty Picasso – When Pigs Fly

10 Dec

Dirty Picasso

The next generation definitely has a good hold on the music scene; there are plenty of obvious contradictions to that statement, but here’s someone leading a promising crusade: 18 year-old Ezra Brezina, best known as Dirty Picasso, who’s ready to take over the minimalist/techno scene. Brooklyn native Dirty Picasso is no stranger to the turntables, as he’s been djing for 4 years and into his early teens. From his work, you can surmise he was destined to cook up original tracks and now that day has come. I’m sensing a bit of a Loco Dice influence in the track. We’re excited to hear what this newcomer has to offer. As a bonus I included his most recent mix so you can vibe out on this awesome Monday!

(REVIEW) Eats Everything’s New York Debut w/ Lloydski and Paul Raffaele @ Cielo NYC (12.7.12)

Eats Everything

The Dog and Pony Show event company has something serious going on here in NYC. If you don’t know about them, you might want to make an addendum to your NYC nightlife party list. Friday at Cielo was simply put: a blast. I mean after all is said and done, what can go wrong in a beautiful venue with light-up walls in the middle of the meat packing district. When I showed up I couldn’t believe the line and instantly knew I had chosen that perfect event for a rainy start to the weekend.

What made the night even better was the destruction from Sir Daniel Pearce (Eats Everything). The Bristolian club killer more famously known as Eats Everything really showed New York how it’s done by playing anything and everything from KiNKs remix of Rachel Row’s Follow the Step to Disclosure’s remix  of Jessie Ware’s Running.

Next Up:

It was an event not to be missed and a very special thanks to Dog and Pony NYC for letting us see the magic happen. Make sure you show up for Julio Bashmore at le Poisson Rouge next week!

Eats Everything – NYC Debut [12.7.2012]

“Few producers in the history of dance music have made such a rapid and far-reaching impact on the electronic music scene as Eats Everything aka Bristolian Daniel Pearce,” as I quote part of his bio, sure, plenty of DJ/producers have similar blurbs claiming they’re changing the landscape of electronic music in some fashion these days, but we’re here to inform you Eats Everything ain’t shittin’ ya one bit. He’s been in the game for the past 20+ years as a Bristolian DJ and has finally gotten to enjoy his well-deserved success in the last couple years.

Forgive me if I’m alone in this opinion, but if there’s one DJ I ever recommend you see live – purely for the unique experience you WILL NOT find and enjoy anywhere else – Daniel is your man. Deep, garage, soulful tracks all sliced and diced completely differently each set – that’s unique and the mark of a true artist in my book. We would also like to give a warm welcome to our fantastic new NYC Partners, The Dog & Pony Show, for setting this up along with plenty of other unbelievable shows to come in the next few months.

Before you see Eats Everything tomorrow night in the heart of the city, prep yourself with a few cuts from his latest Slow For Me EP, now available for purchase via Futureboogie:
